Turtle Wax Survey Links Car Cleanliness to Dating Success

A new Turtle Wax‑commissioned survey says a tidy car may boost your love life, while grime could cost you a date.
Survey Finds Strong Correlation Between Car Care and Personal Care
73% of the 2,000 “actively dating Americans” surveyed said the way people take care of their cars and the way they take care of themselves go hand in hand. Additionally, 67% believe they can gauge a messy personal life by the state of a vehicle’s interior. The same poll showed 65% agree a clean, well‑ordered car signals a clean, well‑ordered life.
Dirty Cars Can End Dates Early
25% of respondents reported ending a date early because the driver’s car was dirty. Among the “disgusting items” cited were a box with a dead cat, live roaches, maggots, bottles of urine, moldy milk, and used condoms.
Beyond Romance: Practical Benefits of a Clean Car
A clean exterior can boost fuel efficiency by as much as 10%. The survey notes that today’s fuel prices make every percentage point count.
Neglected grime such as tree sap, bird droppings, road salt and other corrosives can eat through paint and lead to rust, potentially resulting in costly repairs or a lower resale price. Leaving dust on windows also poses a safety risk by reducing visibility.
Health Risks Inside a Filthy Cabin
Spilled food or drinks that sit in the cabin can foster mold growth. Dead animals left in the vehicle, like the cited cat, may carry salmonella, hantavirus, E. coli and other pathogens.
Bottom Line
Whether you’re trying to impress a date or simply protect your investment, the Turtle Wax‑commissioned study suggests that regular cleaning does more than keep a car looking good—it may also keep your love life and wallet healthier.
