Tony Hawk’s 25th‑Anniversary THPS 3 Shoot Ends With Security Escort

The skate‑boarding icon tried to film a real‑world tribute to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 in Los Angeles, only to be shooed out by security.
Tony Hawk attempted a real‑world homage to the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 by filming at Pershing Square, the Los Angeles business park that inspired the game’s iconic level.
Hawk posted on social media, Happy 25th THPS3! We got kicked out of Pershing Square while shooting this today. He added that security “just shoo’d us away,” describing the end of the shoot as “very anticlimactic.”
The Pershing Square location features modernist architecture by Ricardo Legorreta, stone crescent benches and large red orbs, plus a nearby car wash with a blue obelisk—elements that appeared in the 2001 PlayStation 2 game.
During the shoot, Hawk rolled through the square to the tune of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” mimicking the idle stance of his virtual avatar while leaving most tricks to his in‑game counterpart.
THPS 3 was the first entry in the series on PlayStation 2 and is still considered one of the best, tied with Grand Theft Auto 3 for the highest Metacritic score on the console. The game was remade in 2025 as part of Iron Galaxy’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 bundle.
While the original launch was celebrated with a “ticker‑tape parade,” the 2025 remake received a milder reception, and fans continue to express frustration over the scarcity of new, straightforward entries in the legacy skate‑boarding franchise.
Hawk clarified that the video was not a teaser for any upcoming project, emphasizing that the clip was simply a tribute to the game’s milestone.
