Unidroit’s new Asia‑Pacific Liaison Office in Hong Kong receives funding from the local government and is hunting for additional sponsors.
Unidroit’s Hong Kong foothold
Unidroit steps onto the Asian stage. The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law announced the opening of its Asia‑Pacific Liaison Office in Hong Kong, marking the body’s first location beyond its Rome headquarters.
Secretary General Ignacio Tirado said the office is being funded by the Hong Kong government and that Unidroit is now looking for additional sponsors.
The liaison office is intended to assist developing economies in Southeast Asia and to promote broader use of uniform commercial law across the Asia‑Pacific region.
Unidroit’s arrangement includes an initial six‑year period, after which the institute hopes to remain operational with the help of the sought‑after sponsorship.
