Shock and anger in India after eight‑year‑old beats six‑year‑old in classroom

A CCTV video from a Haryana school shows an eight‑year‑old boy brutally assaulting a six‑year‑old girl, sparking nationwide outrage.
Wow—a video from a government school in Panchkula, Haryana, has sent shock waves through the nation.
On 28 October, CCTV footage recorded an eight‑year‑old third‑grader brutally beating a six‑year‑old kindergarten girl in a classroom.
The girl suffered serious injuries, was first taken to a local hospital and later transferred to the multi‑speciality PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh, where she is now out of danger but remains traumatised.
Police officer Aditi Singh confirmed the girl is recuperating in hospital while the boy has been sent to a home for juvenile offenders for psychiatric evaluation.
Authorities have registered a case and suspended the school principal along with two teachers for suspected negligence.
The boy allegedly told the girl that her father was waiting for her in the classroom before the assault.
According to the girl’s father, an auto‑rickshaw driver informed him that the child had been taken to be picked up, but she could not be found. When he searched the school after classes ended, no one knew her whereabouts.
He later discovered his daughter in an upstairs classroom, severely injured, and said, “When I saw her, I almost screamed. Looking at her condition, I thought they'd killed my daughter. If a child isn’t safe in school, then where will she be safe?”
The incident came to light over the weekend after the CCTV video went viral on social media, prompting widespread anguish over the girl’s injuries and the brutality of the attack.
Police say the eight‑year‑old, who is in third grade, has been placed in a juvenile home where he is undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
Both the principal and two teachers have been suspended pending further investigation.
The case continues to draw intense public attention as the girl remains in hospital care.
