Severe Rainfall and Flood Warnings Sweep Central Greece, Western Turkey and Beyond

Heavy rain, tornadoes and powerful storms trigger warnings across Greece, Turkey and several other regions this week.
Whoa! A low‑pressure system is unleashing a wave of heavy rain and fierce winds across south‑eastern Europe and Turkey, prompting authorities to issue severe rainfall and flood warnings.
Greece and western Turkey are braced for 100‑150 mm (nearly 4‑6 in) of rain this week, with locally higher totals possible, according to the latest alerts.
In Antalya, a coastal city in south‑west Turkey, a powerful thunderstorm spawned a tornado that tragically claimed the lives of four construction workers on Tuesday.
Traveling eastward, India’s eastern states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have been battered by Cyclone Arnab as it made landfall, delivering wind gusts over 85 mph (140 km/h) and rainfall exceeding 200 mm in some locations.
The cyclone has forced the evacuation of more than 180,000 people and disrupted energy and transport networks, though it is expected to weaken as it moves northward while still bringing heavy rain to northern and central India.
In the western Pacific, Typhoon In‑fa was upgraded to super‑typhoon status on Wednesday, boasting sustained winds of 150 mph (240 km/h) and gusts over 185 mph (296 km/h).
The storm is projected to miss Guam but may affect the Mariana Islands, which have already endured four super‑typhoons this year.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Vance has weakened to a tropical depression after striking western Mexico.
Despite the downgrade, Vance dumped 50‑100 mm of rain across Sinaloa, Durango and Nayarit, with some spots receiving over 150 mm, raising concerns about flooding and landslides.
Coastal conditions remain hazardous, with strong surf and rip currents reported along the Mexican shoreline.
All affected regions are on high alert as meteorologists continue to monitor these systems for further developments.
