British photographer Laura Pannack has been awarded the first Tom Stoddart award for excellence 2025 for her documentary series “Crossings.”
Laura Pannack, a British visual artist and photographer, has been named the winner of the inaugural Tom Stoddart award for excellence 2025.
The award is a collaboration between Gost Books and the Ian Parry photojournalism grant and is intended to support photographers engaged in long‑form documentary work.
Pannack’s winning project, titled Crossings, focuses on South Africa’s youth, exploring the physical and psychological challenges they encounter on the journey to and from school.
South Africa is noted for having one of the world’s highest levels of social inequality and a rapidly growing youth population, contexts that frame the significance of Pannack’s work.
The series Crossings by Laura Pannack is now available for viewing.
