Swearing‑in ceremony
Justice Thomas Bradley was formally sworn in as Queensland’s 28th governor during a ceremony held at the state parliament.
Background and succession
Bradley, who served on the Supreme Court from 2018 and moved to the Court of Appeal in 2025, replaces Dr Jeanette Young as governor.
First address
In his inaugural speech, Bradley said he and his partner, Dr Matthew Yoong, look forward to engaging with people across Queensland.
“We aim to spend as much time out of Brisbane as we spend in it,” he said.
He added, “To help harness the wisdom, the skill and the goodwill that is in every community as we all answer the call of the Olympic motto, which is to go faster, higher and stronger, together.”
Political reactions
Premier David Crisafulli called the appointment a “significant moment” for the state and said Bradley’s legal experience provides “strong preparation” for the role.
Opposition Leader Steven Miles said the state is stronger when public roles reflect the community, adding that “That is the Queensland we are all proud of and the Queensland His Excellency represents.”
Community involvement
Beyond his judicial duties, Bradley has chaired the Brisbane Festival Giving Committee, acted as an ambassador for the Pinnacle Foundation, and served on the Gallery of Modern Art Foundation Committee.
The ceremony marks the start of Bradley’s term as governor, with a promise to travel widely across the state and work closely with its diverse communities.
