Israeli strikes in Gaza kill eight, including child, hospitals report

Hospitals say eight people were killed in recent Israeli attacks in Gaza, despite a year‑old ceasefire.
Casualties reported from two separate attacks
Hospital officials in Gaza City said a missile strike hit civilians near Cairo School in the Al‑Rimal neighbourhood, killing three people, including a child.
In the southern city of Khan Younis, the Hamas‑run ministry of interior reported that a drone attack struck a group of police officers in the Al‑Mawasi area, killing five officers who were carrying out routine duties.
Details of the victims
The interior ministry named the five police officers killed, aged between 23 and 53.
The ministry described the incident as a “horrific massacre” by Israeli forces.
Israeli military statement
The Israeli military said it had carried out two attacks on what it described as “military operatives,” but it has not provided evidence or further information.
Ceasefire context
A ceasefire has been in place since October of the previous year, yet Israeli air strikes have continued almost daily.
Since the ceasefire began, the Gaza health ministry, run by Hamas and regarded as reliable by the United Nations, says 1,580 people have been killed.
Overall, the Gaza health ministry reports that 74,594 people have been killed in the conflict that started after the Hamas‑led attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, which resulted in about 1,200 Israeli deaths and 251 hostages taken.
A peace plan for Gaza, brokered by the Trump administration, has stalled.
