Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens Switches Endorsement to GOP Sen. Mike Rogers
In a surprising move, Democrat Haley Stevens announced she will back Republican Mike Rogers for Michigan’s Senate seat.
Democratic Representative Haley Stevens broke with her party on Sunday by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers for the Michigan Senate race. The endorsement was delivered in a video posted to social media after Stevens appeared at a Detroit church alongside Rogers.
Just days earlier, Stevens had told reporters she intended to vote for Democrat Abdul El‑Sayed. The two former primary rivals have been engaged in a public dispute, with Stevens saying El‑Sayed told her she was no longer welcome in his campaign.
“Abdul said that I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away. And he’s right,” Stevens said in the video. “And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today,” she added, concluding, “I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign.”
The endorsement marks a stark departure from Democratic efforts to present a united front behind El‑Sayed.
