Ben Wang in Talks to Play Iceman in Marvel’s Upcoming X‑Men Reboot

Actor Ben Wang, fresh from a Hunger Games prequel and a new Karate Kid film, is negotiating to join Marvel’s X‑Men reboot as Bobby Drake/Iceman.
Ben Wang is reportedly in negotiations to join Marvel Studios’ upcoming X‑Men reboot as Bobby Drake, the mutant known as Iceman.
The casting news follows Wang’s recent turn as Wyatt Callow in the Hunger Games prequel The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and his lead role in the latest Karate Kid installment.
If the deal closes, Wang would become part of an expansive ensemble that includes Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), Kit Connor (Cyclops), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue), Maya Boyd (Storm), Asa Germann (Angel), Christopher Abbott (Professor Charles Xavier) and Adam Driver (Mr. Sinister).
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige first revealed the new cast at the D23 convention in August, after Sink’s Jean Grey appeared in the blockbuster Spider‑Man: Brand New Day. The film will reboot the mutant team for the first time since the 2019 Fox release X‑Men: Dark Phoenix and marks their inaugural outing under the Marvel Studios banner.
The movie is being directed by Jake Schreier, who previously oversaw last year’s Thunderbolts. The screenplay is credited to Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. “X‑Men” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
Wang’s résumé also lists roles in Lionsgate’s The Long Walk, Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel, the comedy Brian, David Wain’s Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, the 2024 Mean Girls reboot, and Disney+ projects American Born Chinese and Chang Can Dunk. He is represented by Stewart Talent, Artists First and Schreck Rose Dapello.
Deadline first reported Wang’s potential involvement; Marvel Studios could not be immediately reached for comment.
