Andover Town were cruising to an 8‑0 victory over Paulsgrove in a Hampshire Premier League Division One fixture on Saturday when the contest was halted early in the second half.

Robbie Skeates, Andover’s manager, said four Paulsgrove players failed to emerge for the second half after the break, when the score stood at 7‑0. “All 11 of their players walked off perfectly fine at half‑time with us 7‑0 up,” he told the club’s website.

Paulsgrove’s social‑media posts, appearing to come from the club’s official X account, blamed the abandonment on genuine injuries, with one reply to Skeates reading, Sadly can’t make injured player continue.

Skeates said Andover Town will submit a formal report to the league, describing the episode as “a complete farce.”

The league has declined BBC Sport’s request for Paulsgrove’s contact details, leaving the full circumstances of the player shortage unclear.
