Amazon MGM to Produce Live‑Action Film of ND Stevenson’s “Scarlet Morning”
Amazon MGM Studios is developing a live‑action adaptation of ND Stevenson’s 2025 fantasy novel “Scarlet Morning,” with Kate Herron directing.
Scarlet Morning, the 2025 fantasy novel by New York Times‑bestselling author ND Stevenson, is moving toward a big‑screen debut as Amazon MGM Studios begins development on a live‑action feature.
Kate Herron, known for directing episodes of Disney+ Loki, will helm the project as director and co‑producer under her A Bag of Rats banner. Herron is also writing the screenplay alongside Kari Granlund.
Production partners include Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, Darlene Caamaño Loquet for Oh My Darlin’ Entertainment, and Aubrey Davis for A Bag of Rats. Executive producers are Granlund and Vertigo’s Jakob Pollack.
The novel, published last year by HarperCollins imprint Quill Tree Books, centers on two orphans who, after years of waiting for their parents, join a crew of pirates on a quest to rescue the realm known as Dickerson’s Sea.
Stevenson rose to prominence with the graphic novel Nimona and later created the reboot of She‑Ra and the Princesses of Power. He also authored the comic series Lumberjanes.
Herron’s recent credits include the Emmy‑nominated Apple TV series Margo’s Got Money Troubles and work on the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us. She is also attached to direct the feature adaptation of The Sims at Amazon MGM.
Granlund’s recent feature work includes You’re Dead Helen for TriStar and the action‑comedy The Set Up. Caamaño Loquet, founder of Oh My Darlin’ Entertainment, previously served as senior vice president at Nickelodeon Movies and collaborated with Lee on Nimona.
Before launching A Bag of Rats, Davis worked at Lord Miller Productions, developing and producing projects such as the Apple TV series The Afterparty.
Representation for the key players includes CAA, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, Shelter PR, Jackoway Austen, Goodman Genow, Redefine Entertainment, IAG, Inkwell, Weintraub Tobin, and Rob Szymanski.
Fans of Stevenson’s work can look forward to seeing the imaginative world of Scarlet Morning translated to film, marking the first feature project for the A Bag of Rats banner.
