At least 26 people were killed after Russian bombs struck an aid distribution centre in the village of Komyshuvakha, in Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhia region, Kyiv said.

Regional head Mykhailo Semikin reported that at least nine 3,000 kg aerial bombs hit the village, leaving five people injured and 27 initially reported missing.

President Volodymyr Zelensky described the first strike on a local school “used for humanitarian needs” as “utterly horrific” and said a second attack hit the place where people were sheltering.

He posted a video showing a huge crater left after Monday’s attack and rescuers searching through the rubble.

The Russian military has not publicly commented.

There are fears the death toll will rise further as a number of people are still under the rubble.

Zelensky initially put the death toll at 18, but the state emergencies service DSNS later confirmed 24 deaths, including two rescuers and four police officers. In a video address late on Monday, Zelensky said the confirmed death count had risen to 26.

Semikin called the strike a “terrible tragedy” for the village and confirmed that “people are still under the rubble.”

This is yet another proof that Russia does not want any de‑escalation, Zelensky said, adding that the killings send the opposite signal to any recent cease‑fire hopes.
