Moods in Leeds LS2 is a bold mix of an all‑day restaurant, a tattoo parlour and a hair salon, all set inside a Grade II‑listed building.

The venue sits in the former First White Cloth Hall on Kirkgate, originally built in 1711 for the trade of white undyed cloth.

Its cavernous interior boasts roof timbers that date back to the 1470s, and the building lingered on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk register for more than two decades, constantly threatened by demolition.

Rescue came through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Leeds Civic Trust and the Leeds‑based developer Rushbond, which pulled the hall from danger.

Inside, diners can try dishes such as violetta potato with ox cheek, while the ground floor also houses Buzz Club Tattoo Studio and a hair and beauty salon called Self.

The kitchen is reportedly run by Craig Rogan, adding culinary flair to the eclectic space.

One reviewer likened the experience to “puzzling, if not quite a car crash,” noting the surprising combination of king scallops with ’nduja and a swallow tattoo on the neck.

Despite the odd pairing, the concept reflects a new direction for hospitality, marrying historic architecture with modern small plates, buzzcuts and half‑sleeve tattoos under 400‑year‑old timbers.

Whether you come for the food, the ink or a fresh haircut, Moods offers a uniquely adventurous outing in Leeds.
