Girl seriously injured in wolf attack at German wildlife park

An eight‑year‑old was badly hurt after wolves attacked her inside Johannismühle wildlife park in Brandenburg.
Incident details
An eight‑year‑old girl was seriously injured during a wolf attack at the Johannismühle wildlife park in Baruth/Mark, Brandenburg, south of Berlin, police said.
At the time of the incident the child was inside an enclosure with a staff member and two other children. The precise circumstances are under police investigation.
According to the German newspaper Bild, the girl suffered head injuries after being attacked by at least one animal.
She was taken to hospital by helicopter on Wednesday; no other visitors were injured.
Park response
The park, which houses grey wolves, Arctic wolves, brown bears and lynxes, has been closed temporarily. Its website states it will reopen on 2 November, without providing further details.
Johannismühle offers small‑group tours that allow visitors to feed wolves or pet a llama, and the attack occurred before the park opened at 10:00 local time (09:00 GMT), possibly during a special visit.
Wider context
The attack follows other recent animal incidents in European zoos and wildlife parks, including a Dutch zoo keeper mauled by a leopard and a man killed by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park earlier this month.
